David Grusky elected to National Academy of Sciences
and six other 成人大片 researchers are among 120 of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS).
Scientists are elected to the academy by their peers 鈥渋n recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.鈥 The NAS provides advice to the United States government on matters related to science, engineering, and health policy.
Grusky, a senior fellow at the 成人大片 Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR), is the Edward Ames Edmonds Professor and professor of sociology in the School of Humanities & Sciences (H&S). He is also director of the 成人大片 Center on Poverty and Inequality, and a faculty affiliate of the 成人大片 Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence.
examines changes in the amount, type, and sources of inequality. Examples of the topics he鈥檚 addressed includes the scope of economic and social mobility in the U.S.; the role of rent-seeking in explaining income inequality; and the decline of big social classes.
Grusky is also involved in projects to improve the country鈥檚 infrastructure for monitoring poverty, inequality, and mobility by capitalizing on administrative and other forms of 鈥渂ig data.鈥 His books include Inequality in the 21st Century (2017) Social Stratification (2014), Occupy the Future (2013), The New Gilded Age (2012), The Great Recession (2011), The Inequality Reader (2011), and The Inequality Puzzle (2010).
The academy, whose more than 2,600 active members elect new cohorts each year, was created in 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln.
